The Heart of Hospice: Celebrating CNA Week

Family Testimonials, 3 ways you can say “Thank You”

From June 12-18, Arbor Hospice celebrates National Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Week and recognizes the unwavering commitment of the CNA’s and Home Health Aides (HHA) that dedicate their lives to compassionate care.

CNAs/HHAs, commonly referred to as hospice aides, are crucial frontline professionals both to their interdisciplinary team members and the patients and families they serve. They provide dignified, personal care through everyday activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility. The nature of this care and the frequency of visits allows them to truly understand their patients, often forming a deep sense of trust during life’s most vulnerable moments. Their expertise, attention to detail, and compassionate care are a gift to caregivers, bringing comfort, relief, and a calming presence. And at a time when it matters most, hospice aides ensure each patient lives each day with the quality of life they deserve.

To recognize and celebrate the dedication of these amazing individuals, here are a few testimonials from families that received end-of-life care for their loved one:

“Our hospice aide, Michelle, helped Larry with personal hygiene, including bathing him. The dignity she showed through her care was a gift. She was strong and energetic, yet gentle, kind and cheerful. She was an amazing blessing.” – Mary

“The hospice aide that came to our home was such a blessing, not only for Eric but also for me as his caregiver. She helped me with the simple, everyday things that I was doing to care for him. And the care that Eric received was gentle, attentive, and filled with dignity. It was everything we could have asked for.” – Marsi

“Mom was able to get a really good bath in her last days. Daniel washed her hair and put her favorite lotion on her—something she had been wanting for a long time. Seeing the joy this brought her meant everything to us.” – Jeannine

“Carly, our hospice aide, stopped by three times a week to help us care for Tom. She went above and beyond for him and our family. She was so caring and was always there to support us during Tom’s last weeks.” – Jeanne

Many families experience first-hand the unwavering dedication and gentle compassion of a hospice aide. Is there someone that made an impactful difference in your life or a loved one’s life?

Here are three ways you can show your gratitude:

  1. Write a handwritten thank you card that expresses your gratitude for the way they have touched your life.
  2. Tell others about your end-of-life experience and share about how a hospice aide brought comfort and dignity to your hospice journey.
  3. Make a donation in their honor so other patients and families can receive accessible, not-for-profit hospice care.
