In Memoriam
June B. Hamersma
April 4, 1929 – February 16, 2020
Arbor Hospice is deeply saddened to learn of the death of long-time donor, advocate and volunteer, June B. Hamersma.
June’s legacy of support dates back to 1980 as a member of the board of Hospice of Greater Grand Rapids, our predecessor organization.
As a great champion of hospice care – and in particular – Arbor Hospice, June was the original advocate for our Open Access Program, determined to ensure that no one was ever turned way who needed hospice care. In 1994, she inspired and founded the Arbor Hospice Foundation, establishing a fundraising unit dedicated to encouraging philanthropic support of our not-for-profit mission.
In 2004, in recognition of her enduring commitment, Arbor Hospice established the June B. Hamersma Planned Giving Society.
June’s belief in our mission continues to define and motivate our organization today throughout the state. We are forever grateful for her heartfelt support and share our deepest condolences to her family.
