Honoring National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

This November, Arbor Hospice recognizes National Hospice and Palliative Care month and acknowledges the many ways end-of-life care can bring comfort, dignity and peace for patients, caregivers, family and friends.

Whether end-of-life care is something you’re learning about or something that has touched your life personally, here are three ways you can make a meaningful difference for Arbor Hospice:

  1. Spread awareness. There are many myths and misconceptions when it comes to hospice and palliative care – what they are and are not. End-of-life care is not about giving up but about living fully each day in the comfort of wherever a patient calls home. Experienced staff provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to both patients and caregivers alike. To learn more about hospice and palliative care, click here.
  2. Offer your time and resources. As a not-for-profit organization, Arbor Hospice relies on volunteers and donors to make this work possible. Whether you offer administrative support, provide a listening ear for a patient at the bedside or commit to a monthly gift, there are many meaningful ways to use your gifts and talents to bless others. Your resources are what fuels this mission – so that care can be accessible to everyone who needs it, regardless of age, diagnosis or financial circumstances.
  3. Talk to loved ones about their end-of-life wishes. It is not an easy conversation, but it’s one of the most important. Discussing your loved ones’ (and your own) end-of-life preferences ensures that when the time comes, their needs and desires for care can be fulfilled in a loving and thoughtful way. This month – and every month – your time, voice and support help bring comfort to patients and families in Washtenaw County and the surrounding area. Thanks to you, compassionate care is available to all who need it.
